Frequently Asked Questions about Wildish Way

Is this Therapy? No, This program should NEVER be a substitute for professional mental healthcare by a counselor, doctor, therapist, psychiatrist, etc., however it can be a wonderful addition to professional mental healthcare. I am not a therapist or counselor of any kind. I am a trauma survivor with my own healing journey, who feels a calling to provide safe space for others to gather and reconnect with themselves through storytelling, equine connection and spending time in nature. I hold space for other survivors to share their story in a safe space where they will be believed, and supported, survivor to survivor. I am also the Author of self-published a book called The Healing You Can Do.

Will I get to ride horses? This program is not a riding-centered program. You will learn natural horsemanship techniques for working with horses on the ground, with the focus of growing your confidence, intuition, self-worth and awareness. All the work we do here is very low impact, and our number once concern is safety for both for you and the horses. My horses come from a background of trauma, overuse and neglect, so their home here is one of rest, and clients interact with them gently, while learning genuine communication and collaboration with them. This greatly differs from many riding programs. We focus strongly on natural horsemanship groundwork methods, that greatly impacts a sense of confidence, self awareness and understanding of the horse as well.

Do I need to sign a waiver? Yes! Upon arriving to your first session, you will first sign a waiver that covers the risks and dangers of Archery and/or interacting with the horses, in any capacity, or being in an equine-focused or farm environment.

What do I need to bring to my session or class? Equine sessions: Please bring closed toe shoes, riding or heavy boots are best. No light or soft sneakers please, and if inappropriate shoes are worn, you will have no interaction with the horses during that session, for your own safety. Also please dress appropriately for your time in an open air space, based on the weather that day. You can also feel free to bring anything that you feel would assist you in your time of self reflection here (i.e. journals, art supplies, music, books, etc.)

Archery classes: Wear solid shoes that cover your toes, and appropriate clothing for the elements, as we shoot out on the field. Wear layers, with one layer that cover your arms, to offer additional protection from the bowstring. Dress comfortably, and please, NO jewelry or valuables.

Women’s Circles and Fire events: Dress for the weather, and be aware it can get chilly. Dress comfortably, closed toe shoes strongly suggested.

Are you associated with any religious organization or teaching? No! In fact, much of the inspiration of this program came from my journey of healing from spiritual abuse. We accept and support ALL religious backgrounds, faiths and beliefs! Whatever you believe and hold dear, is something that will be uplifted and supported during your time here.

What does Trauma Survivor Support mean? I founded this program as a Trauma Survivor, who had fought hard for decades to heal from my experiences with abusive people and abusive systems. Traditional licensed mental healthcare was paramount for my healing, however, it was even more powerful when paired with mentorship and support by other women, and other survivors. When I was given the space to share my story and be believed by other survivors, that amplified my healing journey like nothing else, and that is why I offer a space for other people to share their story in the environment of their chosing. They will be believed, and honored in sharing their story. This can do so much for someones journey to trusting their story and their experience, and moving past the pain.

Do you welcome all people groups? Yes! Some group events such as fire circles and clearly listed women’s events/classes are designated for women to gather for the purpose of having a safe space to share their story in the sacred space of an all female environment. However, we have other open events where everyone can attend, and privately hosted classes and events are always open to anyone and everyone as well. We hold space for members of all genders, identities, sexual orientation, ethnicities, national origins, age groups and faiths to reconnect with themselves, nature and horses. The Wildish Way is for everyone! If you have any questions about how to find the right class or event for you, don’t hesitate to email us!
